PANDA Privacy Policy

Protecting the privacy of children and parents is our top priority. Please see below for PANDA’s Statement of Privacy, which applies to usage of the PANDA website as well as the data collected in PANDA studies. Please note that this is not a consent form; you will be guided through a consent process and asked to provide verbal consent before the start of each study.

Collection of Personal Information

PANDA does not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. Please note that you may be required to provide personal information to be eligible to participate in certain activities on the PANDA website. These include: (a) registering for an account on our site; (b) completing surveys paired with our studies; and (c) sending us an email message.

Use of Personal Information

We will use your information for research purposes only, including to inform you of future opportunities to participate in PANDA research. No third-party organizations will ever gain access to this information, and it will never be used for commercial purposes.

Automatically Collected Information

Information about your computer’s hardware and software may be automatically collected by the site. This information may include: your IP address, browser type, domain name, access times and website addresses. Automatically encoded information is used for operation of services, quality maintenance, and general statistics of use of the website.

E-mail Communications

From time to time, PANDA may contact you via email for the purpose of sharing relevant announcements, alerts, confirmations, surveys, and other general communications. If you would like to stop receiving marketing or promotional materials via email from PANDA, you may opt out by contacting us directly to unsubscribe.

Protection of Video Footage

All videos uploaded to PANDA’s system are securely protected to ensure full confidentiality and privacy of participants. We have developed a multi-level, password-protected system to guarantee that videos are accessible only to research administrators, used only for research purposes, and are deleted after use. Please see below:

  • Once each video stream is uploaded by a parent, the video will be de-identified and stored with a random file name generated by the site.
  • The uploaded video stream will then be moved to a portion of our web server that is not accessible by the Apache web server software, prohibiting anyone from being able to access the file via the web directly. Only researchers with the admin username and password will be able to access these files.
  • Once the videos have been downloaded off the site, the videos will be permanently deleted from the online server. At this point, the downloaded videos will remain on a password-protected server at New York University.

Changes to This Statement

PANDA reserves the right to change its Statement of Privacy from time to time. We will notify you about significant changes in how we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your account and/or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
